There are at least
18 categories of ability or skill that make a singer a success or not. Recording artists who perform on tour in concert
usually have varying levels of all these factors. The level to which these things are developed will be directly related
to the level of success and "stardom", which will be reached. These abilities, or skills, are measurable and
they are things which can be improved with the proper training, education, and practice. These factors will be discussed
more fully on this site in the new "members only" section. If you think singing is all about professional
vocal technique and musicianship, you definitely have some valid points but there are 16 other factors which cannot be overlooked.
These are things you have noticed when you have heard singers and you knew they were good but they were not great but
you couldn't quite figure out what was missing.
These are the other missing pieces to the puzzle. There are 18 parts to this puzzle. Each one can be
improved in nearly every singer, the only exception being (and sadly, this is not a joke) if they have suffered brain damage
or other bodily damage, which prevents certain qualities from being enhanced. Oftentimes a singer will believe that
he or she knows the exact thing lacking but it may be multi-factorial, more than one thing, that is causing the deficiency
or problem. Inferior or inadequate vocal technique is an example of this. Some singers sing flat as they reach
the point in the voice which is above speaking range because the singer is unable to navigate the passaggio (passage way)
between chest voice and middle voice. This is not a musicianship factor, but if you cannot identify the actual problem, why would you think you could solve it? There are solutions
and when you see what is involved, it will become a clear complete picture, as all the pieces come together. What follows
is a partial list:
1. State of mind
2. Clear vision
3. Goal
4. Purpose
5. Action Plan
